Current Events

Yesterday was quite the day for our family!
D graduated from fire academy at the top of his class!  He received something called the Instructor Recommendation, which is the top honor that any recruit can receive.  Two-thirds of the instructors had to vote for his recommendation.  I am so proud of him and how hard he has worked for the past 16 weeks!

Here is D officially graduating from fire academy!

These are all the guys that D graduated with - Company 51!

Here is D with his engine - Engine 1.  For the last 8 weeks or so D has been a company officer for company 1 and this has been their engine!

Notice how D is holding is left arm kinda funny at his side?  That's because it's broken.  It took a lot convincing to get him to go to urgent care and have a Dr. look at his arm.  He crashed his bike yesterday riding home from work.  His left arm took the brunt of the weight of the fall and his right arm took the brunt of the slide from the fall.  D was convinced that he would be fine and that he was just bruised, but as soon has he discovered that he could not completely straighten his arm without tears of pain, we knew there was something more seriously wrong.  We went straight from graduation to urgent care!

His left arm is in a half hard cast thing from his shoulder down to the end of his pinky finger.  His right arm is bandaged because of all the road rash.

Cute huh!!  What a day!

D is on Lortab for the pain.  He has never been on prescription pain meds before so it's been a fun time!  (fav. quote from last night "I think I might be high.  There's no top to my head!  It just goes on and on into happiness!")

I am so proud of D and how tough he is!  He's going to be such a fantastic firefighter and I love him so much!

A huge thank you so much Dave for letting us use your car!  :D  You're a lifesaver!

1st off, congratulations Dustin! 2nd, that's crazy about his arm! Ow! How long is it in a cast for? Can they put him in the waterproof one? Mine was not the waterproof kind and that really sucked. Well, I think you better just keep Dustin locked up because he keeps getting hurt.

OMG - Dustin - that's awesome that you graduated top in your class, but the arm thing - THAT REALLY STINKS! Take care of yourself!
